Pending show how many specs on forum server list

+1.1 I hate having to examine whos on the list and assume whos AFK and whos not to see how many people are really playing, I normally dont get on when theres less than 12 people playing

I am going to move this to suggestions

At some point I saw 10 people online so I went to repop....

8 of them were Spectators. No repop for me....

~~~ Unfortunately I see situations where this hurts server pop. Take 5 people who all glance at the server and see people 10 online. 8 of them are spec, but they don't know that! All 5 join, and while there is some disappointment to be had, now we went from 2 active players to 7 . . . much better!
What if the 5 people could see how many were spec? Well once seeing 8 are spec, MAYBE 2 (hard maybe here) still choose to join to help pop. The others are just going to wait until the servers "active" to join, which can't happen if everyone chooses not to join cause people are in spec.
My middle-ground would be not just the forums, but *members-only* of the forum can see how many are in spec. If you're a regular, I think you can be counted on to come back & play at some point, but we don't want to lose potential new players by advertising "hey everyone's actually in spec, don't even bother joining!".
The server has an active community and you can expect people to hop on during evening hours. I think the argument of "new players won't join if it's empty" is silly - if everyone is spectating, and even if there's only 2-3 players active, chances are new players will leave since they expected to play with 8-12 others.
Also, though I'm new to the server, I'm pretty sure all the people who are afk in spectate only do it to point farm - I doubt boosting the server's rank and baiting new players in is what they have in mind. You might say the whole source of this issue is how the only way to save up for all the upgrades in the pointshop is to actively AFK farm for days.
I'm sorry but this is unnecessarily complex and would apply to few situations. Your example is super niche. Plus nearly all new players are going to be joining through the in-game server list, not the forums.
I have a solution, we drop the fucking sun on the spectators.
LEAVE NO SURVIVORS!!
I generally don't know how to safely solve this issue of afk point farming because I've seen this situation happen before on different communities and it's generally a slippery slope no matter what you do to combat.
Don't enable points to be farmed afk? people stop afking to "pop" the server and don't want to grind it out
Make it easier to earn points by gameplay? People start sweating and optimizing which nukes server pop and enables toxicity
gamba? I WILL RUN AN ILLEGAL RING AND OWN THIS MARKET DO NOT TEST ME.
The entire system we have here with perks, points, shops, etc. is flawed yet is somehow the safest route without blowing it all up together and making a new system for player investment
