Why should you be considered for a moderator position?
1. Do you meet all the minimum requirements listed in the Requirements Thread?
Yeah

2. Why do you want to join the Giants Lair staff team?
This is it - this has successfully capture SGM. Why be staff? Because giving back is fun. Why specifically here? Because the other communities aren't fun.

3. What skills or experiences do you bring to the team?

(e.g., past staffing, conflict resolution, technical knowledge, etc.)
I have a ton of therapy that allows for much "easier" conflict resolution. My past staffing and development experience promote a healthy gaming environment, and give me the insight to not miss the little things. I genuinely like helping people, it's fun.

4. How active are you across our platforms (GMod, Discord, Forums)?
Provide a breakdown if possible.
I'm active. I don't like to stay on my phone, though. But I'm pretty active besides that.

5. How much time can you realistically dedicate to staffing per week?
10 or so hours.

I'm about to hit my last year of University, in which I'll be focusing heavily on getting an article prepared for publishing and getting the article published. Then I'm off to grad school. So, after the Fall semester starts, I expect no more than 10 hours available each week from me. I just have a ton of work to get done.

6. How well do you handle pressure, criticism, or heated situations?

Wow, I don't even know where to begin on this one. With a lot of therapy - I handle this stuff a lot better. The best thing about this whole thing, is if I'm under too much pressure, I can just disconnect from the server. I can always put the shoutbox down and walk away, and go walk the dog and remind myself that none of this is too serious. Life is serious enough as it is - let's keep this light. That's more or less my answer to the next section, too.

7. How would you describe your conflict resolution style?
Life is serious enough, let's keep this light.

Basically, I focus on deescalate. Although, I don't tolerate bullying or harassment.

8. Are you familiar with the TTT server rules and general community standards?

Yeah, I've been around for a while.

9. What does your punishment history (if any) look like on our servers?

Let's be honest here, my SGM history wasn't great towards the end. I kinda lost my mind for a while. A few years after that, I found out I had a complicated mental illness, which I'm now being treated for! There's a lot of therapy required, basically for the rest of my life, but I have insurance and if some crazy shit happens and I lose the insurance, my school has free therapy. It's no excuse for my transphobic, racist behavior of the time, but it is an explanation.

I also married a hippy communist, and I feel like if you've known me before, you'll think that's really funny and probably shows some genuine change, lol.

10. What is your reputation like within the community?
Within Giant's Liar: Good, positive vibes, friendly, etc.

Although, previously on sgm, well, see above.

Hello Ryan,

It's so good to see your interest in joining the staff team over here at Giant's Lair. I have a couple of things to say before giving my strong, positive recommendation for this application.

This guy is pretty good at Micheal Myers at Dead By Daylight, for those that don't know, Dead by Daylight is an online asymmetric multiplayer survival horror video game developed and published by Canadian studio Behaviour Interactive. It is a one-versus-four game in which one player takes on the role of a Killer and the other four play as Survivors;[a] the Killer must hunt and impale each Survivor on sacrificial hooks to appease a malevolent force known as the Entity, while the Survivors have to avoid being caught and power up the exit gates by working together to fix five generators. The game has featured crossovers with many different horror films, television series, and video games.[1] Knowing this information, it is pretty obvious the skill from being a killer will translate pretty well to being a traitor in Trouble in Terrorist Town. Being a good traitor means being a good moderator.

I know your skills from being the 8-Bit Gaming management will also help translate pretty well to Giant's Lair. I have seen great things that you have done to that community and I know it'll also help this community grow and become better than it was before. Hell, maybe we can convince the Owner of this community, if you weren't aware is @Jabba, to promote you up to the lead admin spot because I'm just that confident you will do good.

Finally, I will like to announce my +1, this application was long coming and I knew this was going to happen. I can't wait to see you cyan again.

Local RDMer,
8BitF0x

This person was spraying an Israeli flag in the server yesterday. They also have "Am Yisrael Chai" in their signature, which is a chant commonly used by Zionists (Jewish Supremacists) in the context of Israel's on-going ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Palestine as a whole. So that's gonna be a massive -1 from me, not that I'm involved in the decision making process here.

You mention above that you've been going to therapy, which I applaud. But how can Palestinian, Arab, and other community members of color feel safe with you in a position of power given your clear support for a country that is committing genocide against people like them, especially considering your self-admitted history of bigotry?

Okay!

I was really worried about someone commenting on my "Am Yisrael Chai" thing.
The Jewish people, the children of Israel (Jacob, from the Torah, he beat up god and got a new name more or less), is what that phrase is referring to. It's much, much older than the modern nation of Israel.
An exact translation might be, "Israel is alive," but a more accurate translation is something like, "yet, Israel Lives." The holocaust happens - Am Yisrael Chai! Israel still lives, in the face of the biggest threat to the Jewish people.
I understand your frustration, but it's completely misplaced. I wish you had asked me about this in private, but I'm kind of glad you asked publicly so everyone can take a moment to learn what the phrase actually means.

I'm not going to make any comments about anything else you've said (although, I do largely disagree, respectfully), except for the Zionist thing.

Zionism is simply the belief that the Jewish people have self-determination, and should be allowed to have a their own country in their homeland. It is not a Jew Supremacy movement, lol. It's like, this major event happened last century, led by this one German guy.... The Holocaust survivors, the jews of Ethiopia, the jews of the USSR, and all of the other Jews who had to flee their homes or face death found a safe place for them to exist in Israel. This is what Zionism means. A safe place for worldwide Jewry.

Thank you for your comment, I hope this helps.

Firstly, you did not answer my question.

Zionism is simply the belief that the Jewish people have self-determination, and should be allowed to have a their own country in their homeland.
Secondly, this is simply not true. As someone who has been formally educated, and written research papers, on the history of Palestine and the Israeli military occupation, I will not fall for Zionist propaganda so easily. The problem with your claim here is not that Zionism calls for Jews to have equal rights in any country but rather that they have an exclusively Jewish country. You admit this reality in your response: "... should be allowed to have their own country in their homeland." This is called an ethnostate. Is Israel a true ethnostate? No, there are Arabs that live in Israel proper, but there is an ongoing genocide that is working to change this.

An exact translation might be, "Israel is alive," but a more accurate translation is something like, "yet, Israel Lives." The holocaust happens - Am Yisrael Chai! Israel still lives, in the face of the biggest threat to the Jewish people.
The birth of Zionist ideology can be traced back to the late 19th century, long before the Holocaust. That's not to say that Jews weren't being persecuted at the time, they absolutely were. But to compare early Zionist desires for a safehaven for Jews to modern Zionism is intellectually lazy at best and historical revisionism at worst. Jews did not have a nuclear armed, US-backed nation-state when Theodore Herzl was around. I have no doubt that the phrase has been used for benign purposes, but in combination with your use of the flag of a nation-state currently doing a genocide of majority children, the phrase means something different. Even Wikipedia gets this right. But if you would like better, more scholarly sources on the subject I suggest anything from Norman Finkelstein (leading scholar on Israel-Palestine), Rashid Khalidi, or Mouin Rabbani. The Hundred Years War on Palestine by Khalidi or the interview provided below would be good places to start.

With that in mind, I cannot, in good conscience, endorse your staff application.

Thank you for all of your comments, Pokeben. They aren't falling on deaf ears - I really do appreciate the concerns you've laid out. I want to you know that I am not comfortable continuing this discussion on the forum, and if you'd like to direct message me on discord, I'd be more than happy to chat with you.

Obviously, this is a highly sensitive and controversial topic, and one I bet we're both passionate about, and probably more closely aligned than you'd think.

So, I would like to talk about what happened with us a few days ago. You made a comment in game claiming "Giant's Lair is Pro Israel" I feel you should understand that making a claim like that not only reflects you but is forcing your views on the reflection of the server.

Can you explain why you would make a comment like this understanding that it is very politically driven and brings only the avenue to have contention on the server amongst players who can have very different views.

Giants Lair is a community for all Races, Peoples, and Ideologies Why would you attempt to make it seem like it is not?

Edit as I wanna speculate with you a little bit:

If you become staff you become a representative of our server and community. If someone with Pro Palestine views comes along, how would you find yourself handling them, would you be able to push your views aside and treat them fairly as just another player? If they began to attack your ideology would you be able to remain respectful?
