Previous staffing experience
The majority of my staffing experience comes from now-defunct Minecraft & Garry's Mod servers, a few of which I tried to recollect from my favorites list on the legacy browser but are now just IPs or no longer show on the browser. An additional point of note is that the staffing experience was 5-10 years ago and I did not do much during my time at university. The Minecraft servers were primarily skyblock or prison servers.

I also have experience staffing and moderating Discord servers that ranged from 50-100 members. My duties in these staffing position(s) included: Message moderation & role management and other general "janitorial" duties such as managing timeouts, bans, mutes, conflict resolution / defusal, etc. An additional point of note is that the staffing experience was 5-10 years ago (besides Discord, which I still do with a decent level of activity) and I did not do much during my time at university.
Why should you be considered for a moderator position?
At the time that I was originally playing on STTT / SGM I was a teenager and did not behave myself the best. After SGM shut down, I did not play much of AHG due to university time constraints. Upon discovering GL and having some level of free time and having spent a good amount of time on the server since I first started playing it again, I have been thoroughly enjoying myself & the community (both in-game and on Discord). I feel like the level of camaraderie is something I can appreciate now that I am much more mature than I was when I initially played on the server network 7-9 years ago. I have many hours on Garry's Mod and am familiar with the rules of TTT servers and the general nomenclature of the game mode and Garry's Mod in general.

My real-life experience and education have given me fantastic exposure and experience with people from all walks of life and in a professional setting I have excellent conflict management and de-escalation skills. Additionally, I believe that I possess and can demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to maturely handle stress & adversity. Currently I have irregular hours which would potentially mean I can be active during off-hours or low pop times if necessary. I believe I can put these skills that I have delicately learned & built up over the years would be very applicable here.

With the information that I have been given regarding any warns or slays on GL, I think that so far my punishment record has been exemplary as I have not been banned and I have received very few slays and no warns throughout my total playtime on the server. If I recall correctly, I currently have 3 slays over 70-80 hours (hour total may not be correct, I have not checked in a few days).

My reputation in the community is fairly green as I have mostly started anew with a few people recognizing me from SGM. With that being said, I think I am cultivating a healthy reputation with other players & staff members so far on the server and do not believe I have rubbed anyone the wrong way. If I have, I would be happy to accept any criticism or pointers on how I can adjust the behavior that was unbecoming of me. Regarding commitment, I currently have time to put into the server and can play at a level that I believe would be sufficient. I do not think short or long-term commitment at an acceptable level would be a problem.

In conclusion to be completely honest I would say my desire to join the staff team is something that I was interested in many years ago when I played SGM. I was nowhere near prepared or mature enough at the time and I believe now I can contribute meaningfully to a growing & enjoyable community.

Please let me know if any of these statements were insufficient in answering any of the staff application requirements or self-evaluation questions. I would be happy to expand or provide additional details or context where needed.

Thank you for your consideration & time!

I am so happy to see this application!

While I don't think we have had a lot of opportunity to play on the servers together, Your history on the server looks fantastic, only 3 slays over all your playtime and none of them appear to be toxic in nature (just shooting the wrong person thinking they did something....we have all been there!). AdditionallyI have seen you on the Discord A LOT and we have had many conversations of various degrees of complexity and intensity (all of which, every time you were involved, it was fantastic.) I really like that you have no issues when talking with people, you are not combative, yet have really deep and fun conversations and are able to articulate yourself fantastically, especially during more intense subject matters a well. You are super personable and I think that is a fantastic trait to have as a staff member in a community we are trying to grow.

Anyways, all of this to say you have my +1!!! If I had an open slot, I would snap you up myself, honestly ;)

Regardless of your staff experience, I haven't had trouble with you whenever I have seen you. All I've seen from you is a mixture of maturity, and interactivity with the rest of the community.

Someone pick this guy up please, I can't do that myself :(

I really appreciated the fact that you helped trying to fix my computer issues. I've not seen an instance in-game where you have caused any trouble. You are also very active on all platforms. There really is no reason you shouldn't be offered a trial position from what I've experienced.

I've never had an issue with you in any capacity and you're super active. I appreciate the intel you feed me in admin chat and you make an active effort to keep the server enjoyable for everyone.

I’ve enjoyed seeing you around, and if I had a slot I’d take you. I think the way you engage is something I like, and I think you strike a balance well. You’re able to speak on important things with real world implications without being disrespectful or stepping on toes, and this to me is a sign of maturity/social intelligence.

Your record in game is suggestive of a player who understands the rules and doesn’t cause issues. I really don’t see much cause for concern and I think you will be a great addition.

My question for you would be one that was asked of me, and that is how do you think you will handle increased expectations that come from being staff?

For example part of what I like about you is deeper discussions that you engage in, and by no means have I ever seen you cross the line. But when you are a moderator, everything you say or do become somewhat endorsed by the community, atleast in the eyes of players. Is this a dynamic you feel comfortable adapting to?

Looking forward to seeing what you achieve here. Feel free to reach out for anything, my DMs are open.

Hey Ksharp, saw this come in and honestly I was surprised I didn't give any thought whatsoever when I agreed that you'd do absolutely amazing. Every time you're on, you're a delight to play with (and against!) with quite the sense of humor. There's also something I'd like to add. During my TMod phase, there was a report you'd filed against someone for killing you. The exact specifics are blurry, considering it was a month ago by now, but I distinctly remember marking it invalid. Of course, you'd be a bit incensed and curious about why it got marked invalid, and contacted us through staff chat. I decided to bite the bullet and explain my thought process behind it. I was nervous doing it, as I dislike confrontation on the best of days, but contrary to my fears you were nothing BUT respectful. Not only were you understanding, you even thanked me for my time PMing you. Thank you Ksharp, I believe you'd be a strong asset to the team.

Hey Muffin, thanks for your words of support!

To answer your question & subsequent example, I believe that I am capable of being a positive and reasonable representative of the staffing team on the server. I think that in social discussions regardless of topic (mundane or trivial affairs, politics, etc.) I am able to articulate myself and express my beliefs and opinions healthily and respectfully while also being capable of disagreeing with others without reducing the dialogue into something toxic or combative. I feel that if necessary I would be able to adopt a more stoic or reserved stance on certain issues if that was required of me, but I believe currently the way I express myself would not reflect poorly on the community.

With that being said I understand we are living in an extremely polarizing time and I can adjust or change how I engage on certain topics if it ever became an issue.

When moderating our server or the community in general it's very important to not step in and stop civil social discussions even if the topic could potentially be inflammatory, because more often than not at that point you may be the catalyst for the conversation turning inflammatory, however we often balance that with realizing when the server can't handle such conversation and it's becoming a net negative for the user experience. There are a lot of times where people will not be making an argument or discussing in good faith and they are trying to "ragebait" the server or the staff team and will keep making random inflammatory points, and in those instances is where I'd say as staff we identify it and tend to take a more reserved stance and not feed in to that discussion and be more reserved about our input.

Essentially it just boils down to reading the room - we're trying to make sure the majority of our player base is having a great time playing a game and/or hanging out and if there's a discussion people are getting very animated, loud, and inflammatory about it's something we shouldn't feed into and potentially handle because at that point the people who don't care to participate in said discussion are having their experiences hindered. The inverse of that is letting people talk about something if nobody is bothered and the server is actively engaged.

That all being said your response here to Muffin indicates to me that you are generally aware of that, and I like your perspective on it. You'll do a great job, you have my support.

Rog,

I appreciate your insight on this issue. Getting first-hand tips & advice from someone with experience is incredibly valuable and gives me an inside look at how things function on the other side of the fence. In my time in the community so far I have observed individuals operating or conversing in bad faith and attempting to elicit negative reactions or emotions out of staff members. I definitely think that I can handle those situations when they arise.

Thank you for weighing in and giving me your point of view based on your time & experiences! I appreciate your vote of confidence as well.
