Previous staffing experience
was very briefly a trial mod a long time ago on (i think) dinkleburgs deathrun server when that was still a thing on a different account from the one im using right now, but couldnt keep doing it because of school. not a strong or "provable" history but thought it was worth mentioning.
Why should you be considered for a moderator position?
1. Do you meet all the minimum requirements listed in the Requirements Thread?

I believe so, yes.

2. Why do you want to join the Giants Lair staff team?

Honestly, I always wanted to be a staff member on the TTT server I used to play on when I was younger, although it was for more superficial reasons like wanting a cool title next to my name and stuff, but now I want to join the Giants Lair staff team because I still have that desire to be part of a TTT moderation team, but also because ive grown quite fond of the big and active community built here, and wish to have a more direct role in preserving it and engaging with the people in a more constructive way.

3. What skills or experiences do you bring to the team?

Don't really have much experience moderating online communities, and in terms of skills, I am generally a quick learner and can find my way around most things that are technical by nature.

4. How active are you across our platforms (GMod, Discord, Forums)?

Pretty active. Since joining the TTT server/Discord server ive made the effort to be active to a sufficient capacity in both.

5. How much time can you realistically dedicate to staffing per week?

10-15 hours at least, give or take.

6. How well do you handle pressure, criticism, or heated situations?

I believe I do a good/efficient job at it. I know when to put my emotions on the backburner and tackle problems from a more pragmatic standpoint, and it takes *a lot* to get me emotionally shaken up or take something personally, *especially* over the internet. I am also good at knowing when I'm in the wrong/overstepping my boundaries, and I can quickly "reign it in".

7. How would you describe your conflict resolution style?

First, if required, I'll try to calm/de-escalate a situation to a manageable level if its chaotic, after-which I always try to hear all sides of a story as possible, cross-referencing what I hear with what I see, all under as unbiased a lens as possible, and finally I make a verdict after analyzing the facts.

8. Are you familiar with the TTT server rules and general community standards?

I am, yes.

9. What does your punishment history (if any) look like on our servers?

I don't believe its extensive, but I did say/do some pretty shoddy things that I got in trouble for and expect are still fresh in the minds of the people who punished me for it, and I do truly regret doing those things, I make/made conceited efforts to make sure I never make the same mistake twice, and I'm always working to improve my behavior/conduct, which I hope has been apparent to the staff members who are familiar with me.

10. What is your reputation like within the community?

I can't say what it is for sure, as I can't read people's minds, but I would like to believe most people find me a positive, friendly, and well-meaning person to engage with, even if I can get *rowdy* at times. I will not name any staff members who could vouch for me as to prevent putting them in a potentially uncomfortable situation.

11. Final Notes

On one last note, I decided to make this section to say that I hope you take this application seriously, and that I respect/appreciate whatever conclusion you make off it, and I will continue to better myself within the community.

Thanks for applying coriander, didn’t expect this one tbh:

You alluded to this ban above and have repented for the silliness within , just linking it for others to reference. There’s a few other punishments (sprays, slurs) that pop up in your history a little more recently, I don’t have the full context in front of me but the mindset of constant improvement you shared should allow you to leave that silly stuff in the rear view.

A few additional questions:

Which staff members do you think excel at “preserving” the server? Why?

Staff are upheld to a higher level of professionalism than a regular in this community, both with how they act and what they say. Do you think you could uphold yourself to that level without toeing the line of silliness?

Do you record/have a way to save a replay of your gameplay currently

Thanks!

imo, you have been an amazing member of the community and my interactions with you have been only positive.

Personally I have not seen you do much against the rules other than say some pretty edgy/slightly inappropriate stuff. I haven't personally dealt with a lot of issues regarding slays etc with you, but I did interact with you regarding slurs in the past. Like wink said- I think if you chill on some of the 'silly'/edgy stuff in vc you wouldn't do badly as staff.

Tentative +1 in hopes that there are no more issues like acknowledged above

1. The names that come to mind when it comes to staff members who do a great job at preserving the server are Lync, Ksharp, zomborg, Lordy, and parkranger. All of them are genuinely pleasant people to play the game with, and I consistently notice them engaging with the other sever members in light/positive ways, while also knowing when subject matter strays into more toxic/vulgar territory, I think navigating that balance is the most important part in trying to preserve any online community, which they all do to an optimal capacity in my opinion.

2. Yes. I am aware that if I were to get the position, I would not be above the server's rules, and I am fully willing to put aside personal opinions/feelings to maintain order, I would not have even considered applying if I felt like I couldn't do that.

3. The only immediate option I (think) I have is Windows 11's built in screen recorder, unless there's a better option, I'd be open to recommendations.

Nvidia Share or shadow play, whatever it’s called now, is what I use outside of gmod. It gives you the ability to clip a few minutes in the past for fun stuff like this:

For gmod, I use steams built in recording software that can record up to two hours or so of your past session automatically. Let’s you check in real for stuff like this without alt tabbing:

Those seem a lot more convenient, ill probably do that instead

Hello Coriander,

Because you didn't include me in the list of fun staff to play with I'm going to have to -1 this app. Eat shit and die
A lot of the concerns I would have with you are concerns I've had with many others and believe you would be able to "reign it in" as you said yourself. Aside from these basic concerns I do have a couple of questions for you

1) What are some of your own behaviors your would look out for and self-audit if you were to get promoted.
2) What are some of the ways you would help engage with the community in a more constructive way
3) What is your favorite pokemon

Having an attitude that let's you take a step back and realize we're all playing a 20 year old game is something that I think is important. +1 unless your answer to 3 is disturbing.

Good questions...

1. The main thing would be monitoring what I say, specifically potentially offensive things that aren't allowed in the server that I'm used to saying otherwise, and I do/will deal with that by generally being more mindful of what I'm saying at all times.

2. Would like to find ways to relate to the members naturally. Lots of people choose to ignore or outright dislike people because they aren't exactly like them, but I believe there's always at least one thing you can get "on page" with someone, and that one thing is all it takes to form some kind of connection, and that's what solidifies communities.

3. Hardest question of the three, but it comes down to either Snivy or Victini, you can't make me choose between the two.

Hey Coriander, I’m honestly surprised to see this one come in. However, honestly looking back through my interactions with you, I’d say it’s been extremely positive :). As mentioned above, the primary concern I had was how you interact in voice chat sometimes when you get rowdy, as it can easily spiral into a bad experience for everybody involved. Although seeing how you’ve responded, I ultimately trust that you’re going to go a long way trying to rein it in. Confident +1 if you keep going the way you’re going, much love to ya buddy and good luck <3
