Hi minecrafters,

What follows on the next post is a rewrite of our rules thread. The thread was a victim of Thanos snap.

You'll notice one big thing missing: A section about war. I wanted to open the discussion here a little bit on acts of engagement before even trying to pen to paper them for y'all. Last we spoke, there was a decent chunk of feedback requesting mutual wars. Please give me thoughts here if wars should always be mutual or not, thanks y'all.

You must comply with any warning or instruction given to you by our staff members. If we tell you to stop something, stop.

1. RESPECT
1. Respect the players. You are expected to respect all other players. Don't be a dick, toxic behavior will be punished.
2. Respect the server. Any "bad faith" structures/actions done to impact the server's health (lag machines, etc) are strictly forbidden, and have consequences.

2. RAIDING and GRIEFING
It is important to understand the distinction between Raiding and Griefing before you head out of Fort Giant:

Raiding: Taking items from chests or containers in unprotected land, with the intent of stashing them for yourself. This may include high value placed blocks. If a player hasn't claimed it, the loot is fair game. Raiding is allowed on our server.

Griefing: Destroying or Defacing another active player's build or adjacent wilderness. This is strictly against the rules, whether the land is claimed or not.
- Note: After 90 days, claims expire on our server. After the claim expires, it is fair game to alter as you see fit.

3. ECONOMIC RULES
1. No Scamming. Be honest with trade and transactions.
2. No Real-World Transactions. Selling in-game items for real money isn't allowed.

4. SPAM and HARASSMENT
1. Spam is irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent (by any means) repeatedly.
2. Our server is English only. The use of other languages may result in spam punishment(s).
3. Simply "feeling offended" does not guarantee punishment when it comes to harassment.
4. Sexual harassment being unwanted sexual advances/comments directed to an individual are not permitted here.
EXAMPLES OF HARASSMENT:
- Aggressive pressure or intimidation.
- Targeted racial or group-based slurs.
- Targeting players by any means.
- Intentionally sending false reports (repeatedly)
- Making sexually explicit comments/advances, especially if asked to stop.

5. HACKING and MACRO USE
1. Macros are keybinds that are linked together to perform specific actions on a single keypress.
2. Hacking is the act of using third-party programs or scripts to give yourself significant advantages.
EXAMPLES OF WHAT YOU MAY NOT USE:
- Macros or Addons that give the player significant advantages over others
- X-ray texture packs
- Autoclickers
- AutoTotem

The list of allowed client side mods is as follows:

1. Optifine / performance improvement mods
2. View zoom mods (i.e. Optifine)
3. Minimaps, but the use of cave, nether, or entitiy views are prohibited
4. Misc inventory management mods
Other client side modifications may be allowed, but you must gain explicit permission from a member of staff.

6. EXPLOITING
1. Exploiting is using bugs or unintended features of gameplay deliberately to gain an advantage

EXAMPLES OF EXPLOITING:
- Duplication Glitches of any kind
- Breaking Bedrock Blocks.
- Warping through the Nether Roof
- Any exploit in the server's code (punishment may depend on the exploit itself, those reporting exploits will be rewarded).

7. BAN EVASION, and ALTERNATE ACCOUNT USAGE
1. Ban Evasion is the act of using alternative accounts to avoid bans.
2. It is against the rules to play on Giant's Lair servers with multiple accounts/aliases at the same time.

8. PORN, GORE, HATEFUL CONDUCT, & DISTURBING CONTENT
1. Porn is any image/video depicting sexual activity, nudity (genitalia, nipples or holes), sex toys/objects, or sexual substances.
2. Gore is any image/video that depicts Blood, cut body parts, people/creatures being injured, bodies/corpses, and similar things.
3. Disturbing content is content that is graphic or unsettling, this includes content that sexualizes animals.
4. Hateful Conduct is conduct that dehumanizes another group, encourages violence against another group, or advocates for taking away rights of another group.
5. Disclaimer: Up to the interpretation of the staff member issuing the ban.
- Note: Telling someone to kill themselves is considered disturbing content and will be punished accordingly

9. CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIALS (CSAM)
1. Posting child pornography, AKA CSAM, will result in a PERMANENT BAN and relevant information can/will be given to the authorities.
2. Drawings depicting minors in sexual situations count as CSAM and will be handled as such.
3. You cannot engage in a relationship of intimate nature with anyone who is under the legal age of consent*. Violation of this rule will lead to an immediate permanent ban.
* The legal age of consent in the United States is 18 years of age.

Players can set up monopolies and manipulate the market via "competition" to make more money.

I believe that should be stated as market manipulation and it should be disallowed.

I liked the previous griefing rule that outlawed griefing (but allowed raiding) of any player building even if it's in the wild. Protecting the public bridges around spawn

EXAMPLES OF EXPLOITING:
- Duplication Glitches of any kind
- Breaking Bedrock Blocks.
- Warping through the Nether Roof
- Any exploit in the server's code (punishment may depend on the exploit itself, those reporting exploits will be rewarded).
Are tnt dupers allowed for farms?

To summarize what was discussed in the discord, while it is agreed that market manipulation is possible we struggle to find a consequence of this manipulation that would warrant staff intervention. Theory crafting or researching a scenario where the effects of market manipulation would be bad enough to require staff intervention in order to strengthen your reasons for wanting this rule added is encouraged. Trying to intentionally cause that effect for the purpose of proving a point while negatively impacting the server is not.

What counts as destroying or defacing? What level of care am I expected to provide for claim adjacent environs and how far does that "adjacent" extend? What if I make an adjacent claim to someone else and terraform the shit out of my new claim?

For claim adjacent environments, it may be worthwhile to change the verbiage. My intention there was to weaponize the rules to justify rollbacks in those edge cas scenarios, not punishments on players.

If Siddo needs wood and cuts down all wink’s beautiful old growth trees lining his property that aren’t claimed he somehow spent hours and hours on, Siddo wouldn’t be punished. A rollback would be considered for wink in that circumstance, with a strong warning to claim what you value.

As for claim bordering claim shenanigans, we probably need a section for that. My mindset is you can do what you want with your claim in good faith. If there’s any goofy dickish bad faith behavior (i.e. claiming land then terraforming to bed rock and making a wither spawning hell outside other players walls), punishments and rollbacks should probably occur in tandem.

I think that is a good guideline. And I agree with rollback rather than punishing especially for edge cases. I think that makes players feel more comfortable in just playing the game without worrying that they'll suddenly be server enemy #1 because Siddo wanted all of wink's handcrafted great oak trees' lumber.

The other thing I want to publicize for y’all is a rollback audit log. It’ll be a simple locked forum post that staff post little summaries of individual rollbacks that are committed to, for transparency purposes. Maybe it’s not needed, but I think it’s only fair to show how we are using staff tools in survival.

I don't recall if they are (in that case I missed it) - are/will the rules be in-game on the server?
I ask because not all future goobers joining the server will necessarily be joining the discord, much less the forums, prior to joining MC.
Having the core rules available in-game would be kinda neat. To clarify, by core rules I mean the simple version.

3. ECONOMIC RULES
1. No Scamming. Be honest with trade and transactions.
2. No Real-World Transactions. Selling in-game items for real money isn't allowed.

would become

3. ECONOMIC RULES
1. No Scamming.
2. No Real-World Transactions.

And so on and so forth. Having it be just the "core rules" avoids bloats and mitigates a lot of upkeep, as you won't have to update the specific wording of a rule in-game every time it's adjusted on the forums.
