Archived from @Ryan , I might rework this thread later.

A lot of folks don't have Counter-Strike: Source and ask all the time how they can aquire these textures. Most sties providing these textures are sketchy at best, and are somewhat illegal. In this guide, I shall teach you how to get legitimate Counter-Strike: Source textures for free, from Valve. This guide will be utilizing SteamCMD, a command line interface for Steam. Don't worry, I'll make it really easy - you won't have to do any work. You won't be visiting any sketchy sites, or breaking any laws. This is legit and free - everything downloaded is through Valve.

Video Tutorial:

Step 1: Download SteamCMD here. Look for "Download SteamCMD for Windows" and click the link next to it.
Step 2: Unzip SteamCMD to it's own folder of your choosing - just make a new folder on your desktop and throw SteamCMD in there.

Step 3: Create a file named cs_textures.bat. You can do this by right clicking in the SteamCMD folder, clicking create text file, then renaming the file and the extension to cs_textures.bat. Right click this file, and click edit - and paste in the code below.
Code:
.\steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +force_install_dir ./css_ds +app_update 232330 +quit

Step 4: Run the .bat file. You should see something like this on your screen. It will automatically close as soon as it is done - you should see a folder in your SteamCMD folder called "css_ds". Note that this will take a while - it's downloading an entire game.

Step 5: Navigate to your Garry's Mod directory - this can be done by right clicking the game on steam, clicking Properties, then Local Files, then Browse Local Files.

Step 6: Open the garrysmod folder, then the cfg folder. Open the file called "mount.cfg". If Windows doesn't know what this is - just tell it to open the file with notepad.

Step 7: Delete the two slashes in front of the "cstrike" line, and put in the directory of css_ds/cstrike that we created earlier with SteamCMD - you can easily grab this by opening the css_ds folder, then the cstrike folder, and double clicking the address bar in Windows Explorer. Then you can just copy and paste the exact directory into the mount.cfg file. Save mount.cfg.

Step 8: Profit. That's it - you've done it! There's nothing else to do now. This includes all CSS textures, and maps. This is 100% legal & legit - you're downloading it straight from Valve.

This thread might not be needed soon cause apparently there are going to be shipping CS:S textures now with Garry's Mod.

But for the sake of preservation I will still leave it up here.

Aside from the fact GMOD is going to include the files soon it seems... Couldn't you also just buy the game once, download it, and then without uninstalling it... refunding it? haha. I wonder if that would actually work. Although don't ever delete them lmfao.

Sadly no. It pulls from the files when you launch gmod

That's what I mean, if they are installed. If the pull checks licensing too, well sure. But if not, them being installed even if you no longer own it, I wonder.
There is no license check or anything that sophisticated. It's just mounting the directory from css to the gmod directory lol
