the upgrade for newton launchers to launch you as well is basically only for fun

if you're a t you're not having fun you're trying to kill people, and its kos

if we give dets newton launchers, now you can have fun without needing to be t and they're overall less disruptive than grapple hooks + gives something that dets can buy to just give out if they want

plus gives det a slot 8 thing to buy (or just make hex shield slot 8)

To reiterate:

Newton Launchers and the Newton Jumper upgrade are fairly non viable primarily due to a non proven person carrying one and using one will be immediately kosed. Spending a credit as a T doesn't make sense on this unless you are trolling or are filling the extreme niche of pushing somebody off a ledge and having them spin around and kos you as they are falling... It makes more sense to be able to give Detective the ability to purchase Newton launchers for the movement option with the upgrade and exemption of being killed for carrying a Newton Launcher.

An issue with Detective is that every actively held item is under your inventory slot 7 so realistically you horde credits without being able to spend them. For example Body armor is automatically given to you so you either buy: Radar, Health station (Slot 7), Jackhammer (Slot 7), (Tazer Slot 7), (UMP Prototype Slot 7).So once you spend 3 credits you are bared from buying other stuff unless you want to drop what is on hand in favor of another item. So being able to buy Newton Launcher which is in slot 8 actually makes it ironically somwhat viable if you have the upgrade along with it being a silly item (Don't act like people buy visualizer or bionculars Slot 8 btw).

Along with opening up varied playstyles due to Newton launcher theoritcally being more prevalent, others who also have purchased the Newton Jumper upgrade can still use it since both T's and D's drop their items on death so an average person can still get to use their hard earned points. And yes, players who would be using a Newton launcher unproven would cause RDM confusion but it still falls in line with the rule of carrying traitorous items. D's could in theory waste their credits giving out Newton Launchers to proven people like they do Tazers but that is entirely up to them.

In terms of gameplay. Newton Launcher is very shit so killing people with it would be a rarity. The movement options that come from the upgrade is good for player expression but is tied to being Traitor and consequently kosed for it sucks. In comparison to something like the grappling hook where players swing at Mach 2 around the map and kill themselves due to fall damage, the Newton Launcher on D's isn't the most troll thing they can buy.

There is a lot of things you can actually do with Newton Launchers like launching yourself with props, prop killing I guess, putting people in the air for trick shots, and with the upgrade: leaping over large gaps and scaling walls and being able to jump from high areas by shooting the floor stopping you from taking fall damage. The upgrade is in the shop for you to buy it but people aren't going to afk for a Newton Launcher upgrade that gets them killed on their 1 T round after 5 maps. Let D's buy Newton Launcher.

.... welp turns out I've been playing t wrong my whole life..... shit

on a side note... newton launcher normally does do damage.....not sure if it does on this server nor do I remember how much it is per shot... but that could be an issue not to mention the possible RDM on certain maps (which would be funny tho) .... also that fucking thing spawns on lifetheroof but even if you do get it..... people will just assume your t so you be gunned down

Why Newton Launchers Should Be Added to the Detective Weapons in TTT

In the classic Garry’s Mod game mode Trouble in Terrorist Town (TTT), the balance of power between Innocents, Detectives, and Traitors is a delicate one. Each role has access to specific tools designed to aid in their unique responsibilities. Traitors use deception and sabotage to eliminate the opposition, while Detectives are tasked with uncovering traitors and protecting innocents. The Newton Launcher, traditionally a Traitor weapon, is a gravity-based tool that propels players and objects away from the user. While it is currently limited to Traitors, there is a compelling argument to be made for its inclusion in the Detective’s arsenal. Adding the Newton Launcher as a Detective weapon would enhance strategic gameplay, provide a valuable non-lethal utility, and reinforce the defensive and investigative role of the Detective.

First and foremost, the Newton Launcher is a non-lethal crowd control tool, which aligns well with the Detective’s core mission of protection and investigation. In a game where paranoia and sudden violence are rampant, the ability to push suspicious players away rather than shoot them creates a much-needed layer of non-lethal deterrence. For example, if a player is acting suspiciously near a body or trying to access a high-traffic area, a Detective could use the Newton Launcher to create distance, buy time, and prevent a potential ambush without escalating to deadly force. This reinforces a more thoughtful, less trigger-happy approach to the game.

Secondly, giving Detectives access to the Newton Launcher enhances mobility and environmental utility. The launcher can be used to move props out of the way, knock down hanging items like explosive barrels, or help Detectives reach hard-to-access areas. This makes the tool invaluable for investigating crime scenes or navigating the map quickly. In contrast to Traitors, who may use the Newton Launcher to push players off ledges and create chaos, Detectives would be able to use it for tactical positioning and scene control, especially on maps with vertical elements.

Furthermore, implementing the Newton Launcher for Detectives could serve as a balancing mechanism in servers where Traitors have numerous powerful tools. Detectives often rely on DNA scanners and health stations, but their combat options are typically limited. Adding a utility item like the Newton Launcher would increase the Detective's tactical options without disrupting the game’s power balance—since the launcher is not lethal, it cannot directly kill or damage players. It simply allows Detectives to control space and behavior more effectively.

Critics may argue that giving Detectives a traditionally Traitor-exclusive tool could lead to confusion or abuse. However, TTT servers already rely on visual cues, context, and role-specific identifiers to differentiate players. Clear labeling in the buy menu and responsible moderation can easily mitigate these concerns. In fact, many custom servers already allow Detectives to use items like the Newton Launcher, and the results have generally improved gameplay variety without compromising fairness.

Lastly, incorporating the Newton Launcher into the Detective role supports emergent gameplay—the kind of unexpected, player-driven moments that make TTT so memorable. A Detective using the launcher to save a falling innocent, isolate a confirmed Traitor, or quickly reposition themselves can lead to entertaining and strategic highlights. It encourages creativity, and in a sandbox environment like Garry’s Mod, fostering player expression should be a priority.

In conclusion, adding the Newton Launcher to the Detective weapon pool in TTT would provide significant benefits in terms of gameplay depth, strategic variety, and non-lethal interaction. It enhances the Detective’s toolkit in a way that complements their role without overshadowing the Traitor’s unique abilities. By promoting non-lethal control, environmental interaction, and tactical diversity, the Newton Launcher stands out as a valuable addition to the Detective's arsenal.
