innomotel. 67th way. canyon. hairy house. bowling. Your favorite maps are riddled with pesky doors. Why not just blow them off with a shotgun?

Years ago I played a server with a version of this concept that was coded in house, the doors would come off with such beautiful velocity they would prop kill people. That’s the high I’m trying to chase here.

Alternative less fun variant would be building it into the newton launcher

how would i spam the door and trap someone in a room if they could just shoot the door of tho

would be cool to see a blown off door prop-kill whoever is door-spamming behind it. might need to modify the rules to handle these situations if it does prop-kill.

While no other prop interactions (excluding the specific cases of explosive props and the barrel gun) require a warning due since prop crossfire isn't a thing, I'd argue requiring a warning for blowing off doors is something to heavily consider if implemented; mostly due to the fact that as an innocent you have no clue who or what may be on the receiving end of a closed door in a lot of use cases. It something that could be tied into the "warning teammate" ruleset, i took an awful stab at it below:

1. You must warn if you're about to use an item, usually explosive or traps, that may cause damage to your teammates. (Includes Gauss Rifle, Frag grenades, Incendiary grenades, Blowing off Doors etc.)

As far as scenarios for innos to blow of doors (the valid reason cause), those cases might look like:
This door won't open and I heard death screams in there and no ided bodies
I hear c4 nearby and the door being blocked is preventing my escape

The server I used to play on used to treat blowing off doors alone without warning as a "traitorous act". Not sure how I would feel implementing that, I think the prop rules cover it pretty decently already if there's a chance to hurt a homie.

I'm not sure if any doors that we currently have in rotation use a regular door for a traitor room door, but that is something to be aware of.

I do like the idea of a battering ram or similar for a detective item if we didn't want to just have every door be destructible.

I don't know how the workshop works, but 67th way is an example of a map with a permanently locked door (that leads nowhere) and a traitor trap that can lock a door.

Yeah, that's a good example.

Assuming that the traps can be checked from lua it should be possible, just something we need to take into consideration.

Just wanted to second this. They're no longer around so it's not advertising, 420servers is what Wink is talking about and I played there too. Blowing off doors was fun as shit.

The way Wink has laid it out is perfect, we had three full servers of 30+ people and it was a much more RDM happy time and doors weren't an issue. We have plenty of propkilling here already, mostly as joke or fights, doors are just one more prop you gotta think about flying at you at mach 7. But its so satisfying to take out someone on the other side with a shotgun blast. (I do think that it should be a traitorous act, I feel the same way about flinging a prop into a crowd though so I may be a minority in that. To me they're the same as firing a oneshot like rifle or deagle at someone as T act. Excessive killing for it can be covered by toxic gameplay or harassment.)

BEEG +1
