So anime that I like include Frieren, AoT and Future Diary (i know basic bitch anime LOL). I also love the film The Garden of Words because the art is just absolutely sublime. The water and rain just tickles an itch in my brain plus the music and sound design is super evokative.

There are quite a few Australian rasehorses that I like and find interesting. While I am not the biggest fan of some horse racing (steeple chase being one of them) i am a horse girl at heart as my mum competed professionally before she had me. Anyways the one particular hose that stands out to me is Black Caviar. She was an absolutely stunning dark bay thoroughbred who was undefeated in the 25 races she competed in and set an Australian record with 15 of those races being in group 1. A fun fact and one that makes my heart happy is that she was never actually whipped during any of her training and races, something that can't be said for many other hourse who do racing (if that fact is 100% true or not no one can really confirm since ya know, the horse couldn't speak out but i like to think its true). Unfortunately she had to be euthanised during her retirement due to serious medical issues which was devestating but fuck that horse was stunning. An aussie beloved favouraite that for sure.

i fear i don't have a favorite anime character. I can name two racehorses, Secretariat and Man o'War, but I think both are pretty rad. Both represent significant chapters of American history, and I think they're just really cool. I don't watch horse racing avidly, but I do think it's a really cool sport that is steeped in history, and I'm glad that it is being perpetuated into modernity.

So, in terms of favourite characters, there is one that stands out above the rest
WA2000, from GFL (and as a consequence, Makiatto from GFL2). She is a character I have immense history with, not just from that game, but with the weapon the character is based on in other games which have formed a large part of my own childhood and contain some of my most treasured memories, like beating the White Shark (HQ/Tower Raid) special operation in Warface. (If you know, you know how insanely hard it used to be back in 2015)

For racehorses, one also stands out above the rest, probably because Bulgarian race horses basically do not exist.
Maruzensky, an undefeated racehorse which ran so far ahead in most of his races, almost entirely doing so while taking the lead from the very beginning. Denied the right to run in any Triple Crown race due to being a ''foreign'' horse (despite only being conceived abroad and being brought over to Japan as a fetus), Maruzensky nonetheless entered 8 races, and won all 8, setting 2 records in the process and often finishing with at least a 7-length lead. Contracting tendonitis, the horse was retired in 1977 (officially January 15th, 1978) before having the chance to enter either the Arima Kinen or Takarazuka Kinen.

As a stud, he was also very successful, and while denied entry into the Japanese Derby as it was a Triple Crown race, one of his offspring, Sakura Chiyono O, won the Japanese Derby and set a record just like his sire, retiring for very similar reasons as well.

Oh hell yeah, give me an opportunity to talk about well written anime characters.

Yachiyo from Apocalypse Hotel
Apocalypse-Hotel-EP11%20(3).jpg

- I'm very much a sucker for the trope of non-human characters understanding what it means to be human (the irony of this is not lost on me). Apocalypse Hotel does this exceptionally well and masters the concept of "show, don't tell", particularly with episode 11. Yachiyo's character development is very much a slow burn and immensely satisfying to watch. One of my favorites right here.

Yoshiki and Hikaru from The Summer Hikaru Died

- If I had a nickel for every anime from Cygames Pictures that aired in 2025 about someone not human learning what it means to be human that firmly held my interest from start to finish, I'd have 2 nickels. I think that's pretty cool. This anime is paced so well and tells a genuinely really interesting story, which a lot of mystery anime fail to follow through on. What really sets it apart for me though is the relationship between the two protagonists though, which manages to capture feelings of being unsettling, toxic, and terrifying while simultaneously feeling warm, natural, and honest. They're also both believably flawed in ways that add depth to the story and writing. Just all around a really cool character driven series.

Takopi from Takopi's Original Sin

- I did not intend to write about this character trope three times, but in my defense, you usually get pretty good character writing when characters are made to confront their identity and worldview. Also, it would be irresponsible of me to talk about this anime without warning anyone reading that this one is really fucked up, depressing, and difficult to watch. It literally opens with two separate content warnings. I have so much to say about this but it's best experienced mostly blind. What I will say is that the overarching message is really cool, and the way the anime shows and Takopi learns that message over the series is spectacularly well done. Bonus points for the awesome art style and soundtrack, and for being a complete story.

Reina and Kumiko from Hibike! Euphonium

- This anime is actually full of well written characters and relationships, but I particularly like the way this relationship is written. These two catch a lot of flak for supposedly queer baiting, but I always read this relationship as platonic rather than romantic. In that sense, it's always been one of my favorite depictions of an ace relationship in media, at least in a way that resonates with me.

I haven't seen many horse races, but when I've watched them it was always the names that I focused on. Among them, there's one that immediately comes to mind. Soup and Sandwich is the name of my favorite race horse. I don't know anything about horse racing or that particular horse, but that's a pretty sick name.

For my favorite anime character it would have to be Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia or Kirito from Sword Art Online.

For horses, I don’t know much about it, but found the history of Secretariat to be very interesting, so I’d have to go with that.

Favorite anime character: Hard to pick a favorite Shikamaru from Naruto, or King Bradley from FMAB

Favorite race horse: Im not big into it but my wife is, I pick Man O' War because it sounds cool

For the 50k: Not too big into Anime so I'd probably pick Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist

For the 70k: Dated a horse girl awhile back and was subject to a few relevant movies/stories, from what I recall I liked Secretariat's story.

Thank you for the giveaway!

I am a big fan of psychological anime, whether it be super serious like Lain, or going completely overboard into being cheesy like Elfen Lied.

That being said, I love Lain but my two favorites psychological protagonists are not her.

Mima Tokiko (Key) from Key the Metal Idol - this show is considered a predecessor to lain, with Key being a very similar, but also very different protagonist to Lain where she is a robot who wishes to become human by reaching people as an idol. The show is very 90s coded with its villans and sci-fi elements

Rakka from Haibane Renmei -

Haibane Renmei is one of the other series created by the creator of SEL. The show is very emotional, a little existential yet wholesome. Haibane are essentially angels in a purgatory town where they live and work together, while struggling with self-acceptance in finding their purpose in order to move on ( I have wanted to rewatch it and have thought about having watch party nights of it)
