Pending Allow .mp4 files to be uploaded to the forums for reports/appeals or pivot reports/appeals to discord that already accept mp4s.

Title. I really think the ability to directly upload .mp4 files would benefit both those filing reports/appeals and staff members handling them; right now for steam clipping or nvidia clipping, I need to upload my stuff to a third party service.

The alternative would be creating a report/appeal system on discord, which can accept .mp4 files and is a nice speedy way to solve issues.

Something minor, but a potential concern: I don't know how file paths would be sanitized to not leak any device names when the file is uploaded.

It sounds like a great idea, but storage for these types of files is very expensive. Video playback on websites is also taxing and expensive, as much as I want for this to be a thing somehow, I just don't think it'll be worth it. Streamable and YouTube are still great alternatives and work fine enough for free storage.

Then why not pivot to discord that inherently hosts a pretty massive file size for us?

This report for a different community took 30 seconds to make since steam recording fucks. A middle ground would be an “evidence channel” we can link to easily on the forums I guess to utilize resources the community is already providing

I think this issue is rather minor and reports/contents of the reports should stay on the forums. Creating another separate report/appeal system on the Discord would probably have some consistency problems from a moderation standpoint. Also having to monitor two separate platforms for reports the same category of submissions just doesn't sound ideal. (Same with having an evidence channel because referencing older reports could become more challenging, and either way Discord itself isn't a great file hoster.)

^this too, except recommending Streamable because of their 2/90 day file limit expiry. I'd suggest Catbox, Google Drive, Dubz, Videy, or any similar service that has no file limit expiry. (https://fmhy.net/video-tools#video-file-hosts)

one way to probably cheat though is to hook up a video uploader to an api and call it a day
