Previous staffing experience
I staffed on both SGM and AGH for multiple tenures over the course of several years. Couldn't tell you the dates though, maybe 8bit still has the staff data sheet from AHG lol.
Why should you be considered for a moderator position?
1. Do you meet all the minimum requirements listed in the Requirements Thread?
If not, please explain which requirement(s) you don’t meet and why.

Yes.

2. Why do you want to join the Giants Lair staff team?

To be completely honest, I had not thought about applying for staff once since this community launched. However, Helix reached out to me the other day saying he’d pick me up. We chatted a little bit and I said I’d throw an application in.

In joining the staff team I would be looking to contribute to an overall atmosphere of light-hearted fun and community. Let’s just say that I was not particularly progressive as a youngin’ on SGM/AHG and I think this fostered somewhat of an apathetic character in me. Nowadays, I am a progressive to say the least. I believe these past few years I've really improved my character and become more empathetic. I truly do try to be altruistic, but everyone has their moments.

3. What skills or experiences do you bring to the team?

(e.g., past staffing, conflict resolution, technical knowledge, etc.)

No technical know-how, but I think I’m a friendly person and fairly charismatic. This has helped me a lot these past several years in developing my social skills and learning how to interact with people I don’t necessarily align with. Like for real my school has a Turning Point USA chapter with a Charlie Kirk banner in our main building and I ain't even argue with none of em. I can’t imagine I would come across these types in our community often considering we are first and foremost a gaming community. Regardless, I know what the the internet is like and I think I would handle those people pretty well considering I’ve grown up on the internet. I don't think I particularly get in many arguments here.

4. How active are you across our platforms (GMod, Discord, Forums)?
Provide a breakdown if possible.

I'm on TTT nearly every night, and I'm on Minecraft here and there. I'm on the forums and discord probably more than I need to be lol.

5. How much time can you realistically dedicate to staffing per week?

Roughly 10 hours on an average week, maybe more.

6. How well do you handle pressure, criticism, or heated situations?

In the past I've had people fuck with me because they could get a reaction out of me, but that stuff hardly bothers me anymore. I didn’t always take this well. Even if I didn’t engage it still got to me on a personal level. Kinda just grew up and stopped giving as much of a shit. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt– maybe they’re just having a bad day or are in a tough spot, it happens and I’ve been there. In this way I think I'm able to handle pressure and discouragement well enough. I have my outlets.

7. How would you describe your conflict resolution style?

I like to goof around just as much as anyone else so I prefer to be pretty laid back, but I think I can respectfully tell people when they're going too far and should move on.

8. Are you familiar with the TTT server rules and general community standards?

Like the back of my hand (kinda sad when I think about it 😭).

9. What does your punishment history (if any) look like on our servers?

Be honest — transparency is appreciated.

I know I’ve got at least one karma ban so far, and I've gotten several slays. If I RDM it’s typically people I’m cool with. RDM is pretty fucking funny sometimes but I can easily drop it with people I know don’t appreciate it.

I won't lie tho if dudes be making hella reports on this server I'm gonna be a little sad lmao

So yeah, you already mentioned here. I reached out to you. You've been super involved in the community. We're had some incredibly heated discussion in the past in AHG- in fact, when I first reached out to you, literally the last messages in our DM conversation was you and I going at each other. I still asked you to apply.

Here's the deal. 3 years ago... yes, it has been that long, you were an absolute little shit. However, we've also had conversations in the past on why you had the perspectives you've had, and how you've come to handle yourself. I will say, that I do not think that most of your past actions were necessarily out of malice, but rather, out of an outstanding amount if ignorance and almost laughable happenstance at times. Now, years later, I barely even recognize you - I truly do believe that you've had some time to grow up a bit, have learned to better express yourself, and I do think that you have a broader understanding of those around you, and I've honestly enjoyed watching your interactions. I'd like to see you part of my team of course- but this application will be open for a couple days at least to allow others to get some input in as well.

The one criticism that I do have, but I think you recognize as well is that you gotta get a better recognizing situations that are, at least in my opinion, pretty clearly jokes, but I do think this is something you can hone in with some time.

This is an obvious +1 from me.

Is 50 a lot? Genuine question because I can't remember when this place opened lol. It's more than what I used to get when I was mod for sure. Shouldn't be a problem boss. And thanks for the feedback.

I'm more than happy to address any other concerns there may be.

It comes out to a little less than one slay per six hours of playtime for you.

It's not really something that I'm concerned with though, and I imagine the admins aren't either. Slay count can give some indication of your play style, but the better measure of how you act in game is actually just observing how you act in game. I've generally had good experiences with you in game.

This is an easy +1 from me, I have always seen you as a great regular who never really caused any problems and im glad to see you apply!

Okay cool. I try not to wreak too much havoc. I've got more important things to worry about nowadays.

MASSIVE -1, this user has called me names, rdmed me, started fights, kicked my dog, stolen money from my grandma… nah who am I kidding.

Ben is the biggest +1 I could give. Honestly don’t know how they aren’t already staff. They are chill as hell and provide an incredible presence across the forums, discord, and in game. I know Ben already has extensive knowledge of the rules and would be a great addition to the staff team, they would truly make GL a better community.

I am very happy to see this application come in.

We've had a lot of interactions on both Discord and in-game, and from what I've observed I personally think you'd be an awesome addition to the staff team. Your presence in the community is a big net positive.

My only real concern would be the amount of slays you have, but from reading your application and seeing that many of them aren't super recent, as well as my personal experiences in-game with you, I get a good feeling that you'll dial it back a bit on that end. It's very evident to me that you are very knowledgeable on the rules.

Big +1. Good luck on the application.

parkrangerbuffoon is actually probably my most mortal enemy id say definitely

This guy is awesome; I've known him since kindergarten. I am so excited to see you apply!

Of all the interactions I've had with you, you seem to be a very knowledgeable and active member of the community. Whether it's the server or the discord, you always show a presence which is a net positive. You carry a very mature attitude and stray away from any conflict whenever situations arise. Per helix's comment, you do seem to have a lot of slays overall but this can easily be fixed and it's nothing to agonize yourself over.

In my opinion, ben has the workings of a strong individual who can moderate our servers in a just manner. This application is also really well written which reflects the applicant's strong interest in becoming staff. Overall, ben is someone who can take the shoes of a moderator and is very deserving of the role as well in my eyes. Ben would make a valuable asset to the staff team. +1

With your playtime? Nah lol. It just cracked me up because it's more than "several" lol.

+1 just an overall good applicant, no history, no kicks (minus AFK), just a little bit of RDM but I mean I got 37 slays so not really much I can argue there.

Hey ben bone ore,

My personal interactions with you have been straightforward & pleasant. I have not noticed any negative behavior from you on the TTT server either & you're often contributing to the atmosphere positively. I think you're a smart guy who has a lot of passion for the things you care about.

Something I am curious about is your temperament regarding potentially charged discussions about controversial or heated topics. Recently, there was a conversation on Discord that seemed to have you quite riled up and lead to you making some aggressive comments toward other users who were weighing in. While I don't feel that this issue is disqualifying, I think that being able to keep a cool head & articulate yourself gracefully & respectfully even if you disagree with someone is important. The ability to healthily participate in a discussion / dialogue & mediate when necessary is very important as a moderator for a number of reasons. Not only is it expected of you but it reflects on you, your admin, & the staff team. I know you & helix both touched on your past behavior in your respective opening posts but I'd be interested to hear more from you on this & what your thought process is.

Hello ben, glad you finally applied! I have only had good interactions with and you really don't cause issues on the server when I'm playing. You're also very active in the discord outside of the server which is good to see, other than the arguing in shoutbox I think you'll do just fine. You have my +1 and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!

Totally valid thing to bring up--

I believe you're referring to this conversation, but correct me if I'm wrong. I won't get into the details of the politics behind the conversation, but things definitely got a little heated towards the end. Shaddoll stepped in and shut things down, and I thought that was appropriate for them to do. There was really no point in continuing the conversation.

The issue here is that I am very passionate about what I believe in, often to a fault. I do my best but at the end of the day I'm a rather headstrong individual. I'm certainly no genius, and there is always more to learn, but I do think I know history a little better than the average joe. So when I start having a back-and-forth with someone who isn't particularly educated on whatever the subject is it can rub me the wrong way. I think politics and history are terribly undervalued in the United States, and it upsets me how many people speak with such confidence on this stuff when they really shouldn't. Maybe that's just my ego talking though, I'm not really sure. In all likelihood I will just stop participating in historical/political discussion in this community altogether. It hasn't seemed to serve me particularly well, and I think it would benefit my mental health to keep this community as a space that's purely for gaming-- I'm anxious enough already. I'm also in a political club at my school so I really don't need to be talking about this stuff here at all lol, but it can be hard to participate in my club in any meaningful capacity since I'm pretty busy with school as is. I just care a lot and like to give my take.

When it comes to handling individual instances in-game and on discord, I will refrain from interacting unless the conversation crosses the line into clear bigotry or discrimination. Unfortunately, being trans, an immigrant, black, brown, etc. are heavily politicized identities. People are welcome to discuss issues concerning these groups, but bigotry and general intolerance of other identities is not something I will put up with. I'm confident in my ability to handle these types of situations with grace considering I've dealt with the common talking points many times (trans people are pedos, immigrants are killing people, etc.), and I can be firm but respectful on this front. However, I'm more than happy to take any feedback here-- I genuinely do care about improving.

So yes, this behavior is something I am aware of and am trying to make a change for the better. I appreciate your concern.
