I Vyx, resigned lead.2nd 3rd Newest member of the peanut gallery.
I'd like to talk about my time as a Staff Member here at the Lair of Giants. And the events that occurred leading to my resignation and how the fit in with the mess we've made when it all went wrong. I am writing this in a stupor at 4 AM because to be frank, I'm quite pissed at the way things are going and how it's affecting people.
I joined in 2024 after a message from "Big Red" mentioning it as a successor to SGM/AHG. With TTT coming in the future. I was already sold. When it inevitably launched next year in July 2025. I was the first member to make a staff application on the forums. Where I was nepo'd to be Blue by my former mod @Uncle Dad (THE GOAT). I figured this tenure would go as my previous Admin tours of duty. Fuck around for a few months, burn out, check out, resign. Then I really fucked it up when I pushed for Lead and got promoted August 27th to Orange for MineCraft.
During this time, my life was falling apart. I was laid off, unemployed, doordashing, trying to make ends meet. I eventually recovered, got employed. And just at the right time as we were getting things ramped up for Minecraft. This period was a lot of hurry up and wait. Things moving through one person meant things can only get done so fast. Thankfully I was given the services of 2 Wizards in @Silent Rebel and @Chou in which I will be forever grateful for what they were able to cook up for the MC Server.
In the meantime while things are getting setup, I still delegate on the TTT side as I was always told my word was as good as a TTTs for decisions. I learn a few things from the Leadership Level
1. The Discussion to doing ratio is fucked. As Leads still need the final say from Big Red.
2. When Big Red has his mind set on something. It will be done that way. Feedback, Criticism, helpful guidance be damned.
2a. If it is an unpopular opinion, it will be announced by a Lead Admin rather than His Reddiness
3. You have the Agency of an Admin but now are the face of the community and get all the heat from it too.
4. Red is loyal to a fault to certain members. In which any criticism or ask for changes to be made or conversations to be had get pushed aside.
Eventually we get in a good flow. The Lead team of @pigeon @rog the dog @anna and myself were moving well. Meeting up regularly using games of Commander as bait (Effective as hell btw). Sure we discuss things. Get things rolling for better or worse. The engine of progress is moving. Things are approved we're getting things in motion as best we can.
Around the time of the MC Server Launch, I am working up an announcement, in which the feedback is to include worldbuilding. At this time, most players in the beta test weren't fond of Worldbuilding as a whole (Will be reflected in a Later Poll) And Trading cards are mega ass. This is a problem as Red wants two things for certain in this Server. Trading Cards and Worldbuilding. The Problem is the Vision Red has comes from a Youtube video where the only way we could get that type of feel is if we vet our players first and had a full time DM.
Then Schizoposting™ Became and "Issue". What is Schizoposting you ask? Let me define it for you.
Schizoposting™ (Noun.) Skih-tzoh-poh-sting
I'm not entirely sure, I am not the only lead/advisor with this sentiment.
Were rules broken, yes. Was protocol followed, no, we talked, and talked, and talked. At each staff channel level. It got to a point where we were getting complaints of mods seeking out these "Schizoposters". To curb it, a solution of a #shitposting (#Schitzposting if we wanted to embrace the meme and had some balls) channel was introduced could help mitigate it. In which The Red One advises "We've tried in the past and it didn't work" And then didn't even give it a try until last week and the ship had long sailed. This will continue on after my tenure. and is a catalyst of this coming out.
It's at this point I make a gambit, I know Red's overwhelmed and you know what, I can help. I can be Red too and help even more than what I'm already doing. In which I'm told that he's perfectly fine and has it all under control. And that ends the conversation.
Then the Griefing happens.
First, It's Sunny's Garden, Next it's Jesus Hector Christ, Then Patrick Star. The server is in chaos. We need to have a meeting. And A meeting was Had.
And it was fucking phenominal. A top tier meeting in GL History (Editors Note: This is not a high bar to clear, There was a staff meeting where we spent two hours circlejerking about slurs)
We get an announcement Ready. Then Redstone Block gets a look. Who hasn't played recently enough his claim expired and got griefed (Part of this mess too), and the last MC Meeting attended was the first one which was a dev showcase by Chou and Silent (Eternally Grateful). All of our hard work, progress and plans to move forward. Grinded to a screeching fucking halt. I was allowed to release the end (Still not out yet btw). Red originally wanted to be part of the worldbuilding with the end. I gave him an opportunity to be involved. And i'm instead asked why we haven't posted a poll about voting even though we just erased all the progress to get us moving forward to voting in the first place. On top of which I am given nothing about ideas to include Red in his wishes to be part of the The End (Don't worry buddy, you're being part of The End. it may just be going beyond Minecraft. And goodness is it some worldbuilding alright). It's at this point, the wind is out of my sails and I'm phonining it in until I resign a week and some Change Later
Sometime during this Checked out Phase, Schizoposting™ returns with a Fervent like none other. And in The Blue Chat, we are given a poll with 2 options. Do we timeout proper for a week or no? Note: This vote begins days after any offense was committed and the offending post should have been punished at the time it occurred. This poll ends with the funniest result possible:
It's at this point where a good chunk of opinions amongst staff I'm hearing are If Def Redpard wants to do it, just fucking do it and be done with it. It would not be done for another 8 days.
Now Normally, Resigning from a Staff Position means you're free, you don't have to deal with any of it anymore. A caveat to being Orange, is once you're done, you become Golden, like a Peanut.
And Being Golden means you get to see Golden Discord Channels. Notably, GoldxBlue. In this span of the week to ban schizoposters. (4/17-4/25) There are 1,874 messages sent in this channel. I will summarize the entire conversation in the following three messages:
During this, Crimson Justice shows his True colors in an announcement where only staff can see.
From here all I have is heresay. In which Every Orange, including the 2 new Battlefield Promotions in @;) and @Shaddoll (I don't mean anything in this by the way. You're both great Lead picks. I just think it's shitty you're being thrown in to this mess). In which most are overridden until the Former Red now in the Joke Role was able the only person among all the Golds and Oranges to get a modicum of movement.
To be frank, this whole shebang has pissed me off to no end and this is coming from a place of hurt. Especially since you're making my friends post and defend your decisions. I don't really see a path forward, and if that's the case, I've made many great friends and will be in talks with them. Now this post does have a lot of information in highly trusted channels. I wouldn't be surprised if I earn the[REDACTED] Rank here soon. And if that's the Case, I want you all to know I love Giants Lair and hate that it's completely falling apart like this.
