Hi gamers,

This suggestion was originally posted in a staff facing forum a few weeks ago. I'm retyping it up and posting it here to see if there is a wider interest from the community to diversify staff efforts, and potentially get a few more friends on board in doing so.

Our community's staffing model right now is driven from our historic TTT staff structure, which has a proven record for that gamemode. TTT staff are expected to referee the gamemode, engage the playerbase, handle problematic behavior as they came across it in game/on discord, have productive discussions about rulings, and train trial moderators with the same expectations in mind.

While Minecraft certainly has some of these elements that need done, structured player engagement is king right now to drive things forward. Assigning focuses to the staff roles could help us delegate those duties accordingly, and assist in aiding the efforts of a popping vibing minecraft server.

I'm proposing breaking the staff team down into 3 focus categories:

Content
The Content focus would ideally be championed by the "Head of Content". The head of content would be responsible for
  • Responsible for ensuring the creation of guides and tutorials on the forums.
  • Responsible for making sure information needed by players is easily and readily accessible (what's the map link? what are the rules?)
  • Responsible for creation of new buildings/places on the server to keep things interesting
  • Responsible for the direction of the server's "lore"
  • Will work closely with the head of engagement/devs
Under the Head of Content, there would be Content Staff. Their duties would consist of tasks directly assigned by the content manager, whether it's doing something cool with mythic mobs or a forum guide.

Engagement
The Engagement focus would ideally be championed by the "Head of Engagement". The head of engagement would be responsible for
  • Responsible for the execution of semi regular events
  • Advertising said events inside and outside the community.
  • Will work closely with the head of content/devs
"Event Staff" could be a consideration. It might be best to double dip on the builders we have.

Moderation
The Moderation focus would ideally be championed by the "Head of Moderation", and we already already have 3 of these with our admin team. They are responsible for:
  • Promotion and demotion of staff members
  • Staff training and setting evidence standards, how to utilize staff tools.
  • Bringing up relevant issues with the team
And of course, we already know our moderation team. They have the powers vested in them to keep the server civil, catch rule breakers, and handle shit accordingly. They will be

This suggestion isn't meant to suggest that a "Content Focused" Moderator shouldn't act on grief; Focuses are meant to turn their attention towards things, not ignore things outside their sphere. This suggestion is meant to help spread the love across the team, and hone the craft who wants to do what. It's also meant to spread the good word that signing up for MC mod doesn't lock you into a hall monitor role; we want to enable players in our community to help engage new people to our servers and discord with memorable experiences, fun events, and good friends.

I was big on this when I was a Lead and were I still in the position is something I'd be bringing up to roll out. I think this is a neat idea that has some legs

+1
