It’s never made sense to me that a user who is micspamming, but otherwise not being disruptive, is banned from playing the game. We have the ability to gag them, why not just make that the punishment? Then we don’t lose a player for what is admittedly a very silly offense

i agree bans are alot just remove mic access for a while

TTT is a social deduction game. Taking one's ability away to communicate effectively handicaps the team they are on unfairly, making a full pop 36 player server effectively 35.5 players.

Not to mention 25% of the time micspam michael takes a different rule breaking path when they realize they are gagged, whether it's a short one or longer.

Don’t bring Michael into this. He’s on the mend. He had a rough childhood. But also I don’t know if it’s necessarily true that someone who likes to use a soundboard would suddenly turn into a horrible rule breaker.

Also how dare you, I only use text chat

I think a ban is fair. Just like if someone keeps nonstop breaking the same rule it becomes a ban. Besides, it's not like a ban is something you get outright for mic spamming. It's what. After 3 times with gags?

So is the proposed change to, instead of banning someone for constantly mic spamming after being gagged several times, to just regag them every round? Or gag them permanently? And if you aren't having permanently, is there any limit before you'd say a ban can be allowed or are you saying that if someone minc spams, gets temp gagged, ungagged, then micspams again 50 times you'll just keep gagging them?

Punishments for breaking rules shouldn't be repeatedly doing the same punishment, it should become exponentially harsher for each offense to discourage.

Example being slurs. Kick, ban, longer ban, etc etc.

A gag with no higher punishments really doesn't feel like a major punishment unless you make them exponentially longer but at what point do you get gagged for so long do you just say "might as well start rdming" or breaking other rules because you're gagged for so long you'll never be able to actually do anything in the community in game.

A ban is a harsher punishment later in the line, that you can make an appeal apologizing to get it reduced or lifted, and serves as more of a deterrent as while banned, you can't play at all, but ehile gagged, you can still do everything else,

Every type of rule breaking should include a ban at some point in the line. Otherwise punishments aren't punishments. They are just inconveniences

And if you make playing the server enough of an inconvenience to someone what's to stop them from breaking worse rules and leaving forever.

I can go either way on this. I see this being implemented as keeping the ban lengths the same but having it be a persistent gag/mute instead of a ban of the same duration.

One thing to note is that gags and mutes are not currently persistent across sessions or maps, so this would require some additional involvement from the devs to set this up.

kinda have a bit of hesitation on removing the ban from mic spam, as well, ngl 90+% of the time those that get banned for mic spam would escalate if left on the server. I like the idea of a 1 day mic spam ban being a little wake up call to get their shit together to continue playing
