Pending Revert Mic Battery Increase

A while back Mic battery got increased. After this the issue with some people talking nonstop for map after map has gotten worse.

I suggested before Reducing the mic timer, and I'd like to go back to that.

Theres no reason someone should have enough mic battery to practically hold down their mic button nonstop for entire map rotations.

Given the fact that I've been getting a lot of complaints from players on the server during high-pop hours about this, I'm going to tentatively express my support. I'm not sure how we'd go about implementing it but I agree it needs to be addressed somehow.

Callidus's previous thread about this for visibilty: https://giantslair.com/threads/suggestion-reduced-microphone-timer.1080/#post-7876
Its 100% doable, bc at the time i had that thread, there was another one to increase the microphone timer and they did that one lol.

+1 , I think that the mic battery is a necessity. I don't believe that the battery should be strict, but it should at the very least exist in some capacity in order to serve as a reminder to people that they have essentially dominated the chat if the mic battery is stopping them. In the previous thread there was the argument of "oh if staff are on there doesn't need to be a battery" but the issue with this argument is while long-winded conversations exist that dominate the chat, they aren't spam. We don't want to 1984 perfectly fine conversations, we want people to talk, but there is a limit and I think the battery is a good limit in letting people know themselves that they are being too domineering of the VC.

wait was the battery just removed entirely?

today i learned: if you right click the mute button on a player you can adjust their volume. i think this is a better option for players because it really depends on the individuals experience and how they feel about the vc happening yk? its a social game after all :3

Looking at the previous thread and seeing some of the motivation here, I’m going to -1 this suggestion.

I think it’s important to remember that TTT is a social game. I want to encourage that, and I honestly have never had a moment, outside of just straight mic spam or something that would require staff intervention, that I felt confident that we were moving in the wrong direction on how we control voice chat. Because it’s a social game, people are going to have chats that are outside of the realm of just gameplay, which was mentioned in the previous thread as a point of contention. This community isn’t designed to be an ultra-sweat competitive version of TTT. Our hit reg would need to be better to go down that avenue lol.

There is a mute/volume slider that you can use on individuals though if you do feel like it’s a bit much.

Yes but then in high pop it becomes 5+ people taking at once becoming a screaming match

Welcome to the expected chaos and charm that Garry’s Mod is. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I wish it still had the shitty mics.

I get it. It’s easy to get over-stimulated in loud environments, and a full server is definitely that. However, I’m only half kidding about the statement above. It’s sort of tradition and the charm that comes to Garry’s Mod servers that you’re seeing here and I just don’t see any reason to move away from that. There’s tools in the server to help you deal with that already if it’s a specific issue for you while allowing others to enjoy what has been apart of the game for so long.
