Ngl, this is something I don't think needs to be made even more forgiving. It's already disgustingly forgiving, make multiple sets of armor and a extra weapon so you can go back and fight for your gear.
It's disgustingly forgiving already between /back and the grave which gives an additional 5 minutes of grace to your items on top of the vanilla 5 minutes, and we don't have an entity clear plug-in to cause issues. I don't think it needs to be more forgiving.

I can definitely see where that comes from, but I think the core functionality has some flaws anyhow. /back just puts you right back where you died , if you were already in your best gear, that means walking into whatever killed you with a worse set right in the middle of where you died (Which again, the mob hordes love to just camp right on top of your spot). One-shot tool, not a stacked safety layer. And the vanilla 5 minutes is mostly cosmetic anyway, since Elite Mobs camping the spot on top of everything else means good luck getting it anyhow, and if you were anywhere near lava, the instant that 5 minutes was up, half of it got flung 4 blocks in every direction aha, so half the scattered drops end up in lava or under mobs. The grave consolidating everything is the only reason recovery is actually viable - the vanilla portion isn't doing the work it sounds like it is.
Nether's the cleanest case for a small bump too. /back can land you somewhere weird, and re-entering through your portal drops you on the wrong end of a long walk. Couple extra minutes mostly just closes that gap.
It also lands hardest on newer players, who are the ones most likely to die in dumb ways to begin with. Someone established that already has a decent foundation shrugs off a lost grave easily, but someone a week in just lost the only decent kit they had. "Bring backups" is fine advice
if you have backups. Sure, most of the current players are probably somewhat stable, but if the goal is to ensure that the Minecraft numbers don't follow the TTT server numbers, even the small things can keep people from getting irrationally annoyed and just finding something else to play.
2-3 minutes really isn't a huge swing. And the "disgustingly forgiving" angle kind of cuts both ways tbh, if it's too forgiving for you personally, just don't use it. The change doesn't force anyone into easier recovery, just gives the people who actually need it a slightly bigger window. Nobody loses out on it, and those that can benefit from it, just.. simply benefit, y'know?
I get where it comes from, but it almost comes off that the 5 minutes vanilla is again, cosmetic, as it's nearly useless. If you haven't gotten back to your grave quick enough in that 5 minutes, the last thing that's gonna help is it throwing all your items lol. Especially when the last snapshot you saw of it was like <1 minute but there's a dozen mobs. Yeah you're fucked either way, but even another minute is still another minute that you can try and fight for a container rather than watch it fly out, with a single creeper basically destroying it, which those fuckers love to spawn at the worst times.
