You know what would be a grand idea? Letting people create whatever roles they want.

Every time you post in this thread, post a role. The role can be anything. You can suggest something simple like sheriff, or do mad science the likes of only Cel would understand. Eventually I'll host a game of random roles from this thread.

Pilgrim

The Sniffer - each other player is given a specific 'scent', at night The Sniffer goes to their house and sniffs them while they sleep, the sniffer is given the 'scent' of that person and every other person they've been in contact with. It's up to the sniffer to figure out which scent is to each person and use that to determine who has been with who. The Sniffer can also instead go to the graveyard to get a scent of a dead person, but because the dead person was cleaned before the funeral the scent will only be of that person and no others.

If SOMEHOW one of these ends up being fun and balanced I might yoink it for a big project that's in the works, but might as well put something here thats so egregiously stupid that I'm never putting it in.

Crazy Cat Lady
Neutral
No Defense

Every day, can send one Cat to another player's house (they will be notified). If that player attempts to visit that night, they will be smited by the universe for making a cat move off of their lap. If the player does not visit that night, any attacker that visits them or any role that causes the player with the cat to visit will be smited for trying to move the cat. If somehow a role relating to rodents or birds are involved, they will immediately die if a cat is given to them. The Crazy Cat Lady wins when 4 players are killed due to a cat.

Wizard

At night cast a spell on a player. The spell has an equal chance of killing the player, protecting them from attacks, roleblocking them, or revealing their abilities and alignment.

You win with the Town.

Warlock

At night cast a spell on a player. The spell has an equal chance of killing the player, protecting them from attacks, roleblocking them, or revealing their abilities and alignment.

You win with the Mafia.

Kingmaker (neutral)
D1 you decide which faction wins with you immediately…

Jk
Fr i suggest the old cursed soul implementation pre soul faction

Wincon: win with your new role’s conditions.

Night action: swap your role with your target. They are now the cursed soul.

No attack no defense

Extra: If there is 1 non neutral faction left at any point and you are alive as a cursed soul you insta die.

If you are reading this, congratulations! You have already won!
You are immune to lynches and nightkills. Your vote counts for 4. Have fun!

Not a new role suggestion but:

Jester feels very out of place as is in the past few games. The optimal strat seems to be just not playing the game, and because we have no role list we're forced to hang an obvious jester to avoid the possibility of an evil faking jester. Of course, evils can fake being jester regardless of whether or not there's a role list, but the complete absence of one puts the town in a position where we just have to hang people who aren't participating. Also exacerbated by the fact that we've generally played games where abstaining was not an option. Cloudy literally won as jester by refusing to participate, despite us knowing that she was almost certainly the jester, because we needed to vote someone. (No shade on you cloudy.)

I would propose one of two changes at the discretion of future GMs.

1. Don't run a jester in games with no visible role lists. You don't need to tell us this of course, just consider it while you're making the role list.
2. Add the option to vote someone as jester, instead of just voting for who to execute. If a jester is voted as jester, they lose. If the town votes that someone is a jester and gets it wrong, perhaps the jester gets some kind of boon, like a new night action or something to help them get lynched.

I just generally think that the jester adds a really fun dynamic to the game when they need to play the game seriously. Being incentivized to not participate is boring for everyone, especially the jester.

I feel like a Tos2-esque Chatterbox system could work it would just take extra effort to implement

Plumber
Town Investigative
Can check a player once per night to see if they have a night-chat. Includes temporary (Jail) and permanent (Mafia) night chats. Does not know what's in the chat or what it is for.

The Alien :alien: :
Neutral - Evil
0 Attack Power - 0 Defense

Night ability - Abduct (1 use) - You cannot speak until day 3. You must observe how the humans behave. Any attempts at doing so will result in you saying: MEEP! MEEP! MEEP! TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER!!! You may Visit a player and Steal their Role's abilities (any roles that kill credit the Alien to them). The player you visited now becomes an Amnesiac. You wiped their mind! Locked until Night 3.

Goal: Survive until the end of the game. You win with: Mafia/Coven, Apoc, Neutral killings.
