Important War Discussion Thread

If you paid attention to the last thread, you'd notice one key element was missing from the drafting of our rulesets: War.

As of right now, Wars are mutual regardless of what "aggression" may be taking place. Both parties need to be onboard and can set terms/conditions on what that looks like. This is necessary for now, since we don't have an opt out system for players/nations who wish to be peaceful and not get hit with PvP gods. I want to discuss potential changes to this, and shed some light on the potentials with the plugin's configurations for us.

  1. Make wars not so mutual with acts of aggression or other not some mutual means (war currency, etc), install a "peaceful town" application process
    • Acts of aggression could include kills out in the wild, silly stuff done near a town's borders, other goofy RP reasons
    • Peaceful town application process would come with a "drawback" of some sort if accepted; by opting out of mutual wars, instating upkeep cost/smaller claim amounts/not being able to involved in a nation may all be floated as possibilties. Other ideas that could be floated would be giving additional "perks" to towns that can be warred with to incentivize action.
  2. Instating war "timeslot" (i.e. Friday 5pm pst - Sunday 10pm pst)
    • Limiting wars to only be able to occur during a certain timeslot would ensure maximum participation can be achieved, and avoids the "I'm going to go war during 1pm on a Wednesday with y'all people who work" especially if we walk back mutual wars.
  3. Allowing the war plugin to borderlands via "capture points" to really heighten the impact of having strong border/what wins wars
    • Plugin currently has configurations to allow expensive beacon flags to be placed and "captured", and slowly unclaim chunks at your borders. If not so mutual wars are committed to, this could be a very interesting way of shaping borders and gives a great objective to focus on other than ransacking loot that's accessible. The beacons provide points towards winning the war, along with the kills they inspire.

Give me some thoughts, I know this is a rather dicey subject :^)

I propose, if possible, and if point 1 is implemented, that lands that are available to be warred set their own timeslot (with a minimum # of hours/days). i.e. if you want to war me this is the timeslot you have to work with. It would allow defense to work with anyone's time availability regardless of timezone or occupation

I think that war shouldnt need both sides consent, if there is any reason for one to go to war with another (griefing, border squatting, intimidation, silly RP reasons) there should be a Casus Belli clause for people to be able to make wars happen. It'd be cool to allow damage to people's lands and looting during wars as long as there was a limit to the monetary value allowed to be stolen and damage heals itself after the war is over.

Also agree with swizerland states. They can be attacked but the instant you do, all other civilizations have the right to raid the attackers land.

That said, Swiss lands need to not have done anything to warrant any sort of agitation including using the bounty board. Also don't think You do any of that stuff and you are not allowed to become Swiss, so for example Teto's Territory cannot be Swiss
