I've had my own little taste of "the system isn't perfect" recently lmfao and it's not a big deal to me, I moved on. that's kind of my whole thing with this. It just
isn't that deep.
but reading through all of this is just wild. I watched SGM do exactly this. Literally the exact same cycle, except GL somehow did a speedrun. the staff drama, the vibe audits or whatever version of that they had, people building cases against players they just didn't like. it's the same playbook. and SGM is dead now. so that's fun. like jfc, ryan, that bit about jumping in a VC just to record and try and get evidence is fucked, why in the hell are you dedicating your time to
that out of literally anything else.
"What'd you do today"
"I collected evidence against a member of an organization that was bringing terror to my company, I was doing intense surveillance and watching them while acting inconspicuous towards my adversary!" (
he sat on the sidelines of a VC to record evidence to ban someone from garry's mod)
Like to be fair, I get it, I used to be a mod too on SGM like over 8 years ago and another community before that, I was like 13-14 lmfao, and that was some sorta shit I would do. But uh 'ts ain't tuff' and there's probably other things that time could be better spent doing. Not specifically aimed at Ryan, but more just at the general idea of it again, not being that deep. It's supposed to be fun and mods are supposed to just be the bumpers that keep a bowling ball from going into the gutter, not throwing bricks on the lane and being mad when someone hits them, or doesn't want to play anymore lmao.
I don't think most of the people posting in here are bad people on either side. I think a 20 year old game has a way of making people act like the stakes are extremely high when they're really not. someone making a dumb joke in gen chat is not a federal case. neither is a kill in TTT. the whole thing where people are saving clips and building evidence files and conducting "vibe audits" on players they don't like-.. in a gmod community-.. is genuinely so funny to me if it wasn't also the exact thing that kills these servers every time.
this thread alone is wild that it had to be made in the first place, with so many great points being made and the people they're 'about' literally proving it by getting massively defensive over it or just blatantly ignoring it, or giving it a goofy ass rating without saying anything else lol.
like I dunno, the server seems to be <5 players about 90% of the time, so it might be time to try something different, because whatever is going on currently isn't working super well. it's definitely not related to TTT as a whole, as there are other servers/communities doing alright. Not great, but that's just kinda the way it goes with an old game, I'm surprised it has lasted
this long. Good job garry. Hope S&Box wont be as shitty as it felt when I played the old test build. Just name it gmod 2 tho.
But even as I write this at 6AM, there are more than a few TTT servers with 1-2 dozen people, with the most full one being US based, and still populated on a Monday morning lmao. Meanwhile I feel like open GL and see nobody on. Even like early Saturday nights, which used to be prime time, especially to play with people that you don't know.
Like.. It's probably not necessarily a TTT problem. Here is one of the somewhat populated TTT servers
Here is Giant'sLair
That bottom line consistency is just.. I dunno, odd. People at this point are kinda clinging onto the community but don't want to play it seems. Where is the outreach, the server voting, the thing to actually get GL to spread at all rather than just be one of a dozen servers in the list when you click TTT.
anyway. hope it gets sorted. o/
